New awards for The Storyteller's Candle!
The awards and honors continue to roll in for The Storyteller's Candle / La velita de los cuentos. The book has just been named a Jane Addams Award Honor Book and has also received a 2009 Skipping Stones Honor Award! Many congratulations to author Lucía González and illustrator Lulu Delacre. The Storyteller's Candle was named one of two 2009 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award Honor Books in the Books for Younger Children category. The Addams Award recognizes excellent children’s books that invite young readers to think deeply about peace, social justice and world community, past and present. The 2009 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award ceremony will be held on Friday, October 16 at 2:30 pm at the Jane Addams Peace Association building across from the United Nations in New York City. The author and artist will each receive a certificate and an honorarium of $500. For more information about the award and all the winners, click here.
The Skipping Stones Honor Awards recognize exceptional books and teaching resources. The Storyteller’s Candle is included in this year's list! According to the Skipping Stones website, "Together, they encourage an understanding of the world's diverse cultures, as well as nature and ecological richness. The selection promotes cooperation, nonviolence, respect for differing viewpoints, and close relationships in human society." CBP certainly strives for those qualities in our books, so we're thrilled to be among very good company this year.
