Take a sneak peek at our Fall 2009 books...

We can't believe it's already almost summer. We're already looking ahead to our very exciting fall 2009 releases, and we wanted to share a sneak peek of them with you. We'll be offering two bilingual Spanish-English titles, one by Guadalupe Rivera Marín, daughter of world-renowned muralist Diego Rivera, and another by Maya Christina Gonzalez, author and illustrator extraordinaire. Read on for a sneak peek.

Papa Our first title, My Papa Diego and Me / Mi papá Diego y yo, is a collection of stories and childhood memories by Guadalupe Rivera Marín, accompanied by fourteen pieces of her father's artwork. It has been a thrill and a privilege to work with Guadalupe directly, and to hear her stories about her childhood and her father firsthand. This book is a wonderful, unique collection is humorous, tender, and very personal. We'll be posing video and images from the book over the next few months to give you a glimpse into this historic publication. In April Guadalupe came up to San Francisco from Mexico to present the book to our sales reps at Publishers Group West (PGW). In the photo below Guadalupe is second from the left holding a mocked-up copy of the book, which is currently being printed.

My Papa Diego and Me / Mi papá Diego y yo will be available nationwide in September of 2009.

Our other title for the fall of 2009, I Know the River Loves Me / Yo sé que el río me ama, is the second to be written and illustrated by Maya Christina Gonzalez. In this follow up to her award-winning book, My Colors My World, little Maya takes readers with her on a visit to the river which cares for her and sustains her. Maya has truly outdone herself with the artwork for this title; working in a combination of watercolor and charcoal on rag paper, it evokes both the vivid emotion seen in much of Maya's work for children as well as the calm simplicity reminiscent of Japanese paper prints. We've received a few advance samples of the book from our printer, which you can see in the photo below.
