New video sneak peek of My Papa Diego and Me
Take a sneak peek at one of our upcoming fall titles featuring the childhood memories of Guadalupe Rivera Marín and the artwork of her father, Mexican master Diego Rivera. Guadalupe presented the book, My Papa Diego and Me / Mi papá Diego y yo, to our sales representatives in April, and we were lucky enough to be there with a film crew to capture it:
CBP Partner Profile: BMAGIC

This month, CBP is proud to highlight our partner BMAGIC. Founded in San Francisco in 2004, Bayview Hunters Point Mobilization for Adolescent Growth in Our Communities [BMAGIC] is a collaborative, neighborhood-based nonprofit organization, dedicated to social justice and change that advances the educational and economic needs of the underserved youth and families of Bayview Hunters Point. Following is an excerpt of an interview with BMAGIC’s Director, Yvette Mari Robles:
Be a friend to the indies!
At Children's Book Press, we appreciate any means of bringing our books to our readers -- but we have a special place in our hearts for local independent booksellers, who have been huge supporters of the Press since its founding in 1975. This great post on the Emerging Leaders blog of the ABA (American Booksellers Association) lays out some excellent, thought-provoking points about independent booksellers and why they're so important.
Also highlighted in this post is IndieBound, a website that maps bookstores and other independent retailers of all kinds around the country, with interactive maps.

Celebrate LGBT Pride Month with a book!

This June 1st, the Obama White House officially declared June to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. In the spirit of celebrating not only LGBT pride, but also LGBT families, we’d like to highlight our book Antonio’s Card.
With Mother’s day around the corner and tasked with making a family picture, the young boy examines his feelings about having two mothers. Antonio’s story is an engaging reminder that we are all unique, and that families come in many forms.
Check out the pride festivities that are taking place all across the country this month and throughout the year. For countrywide event listings visit COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere); for Bay Area events, visit Our Family Coalition’s site.
The People Shall Continue: A revolutionary retelling, now a classic
Back in 1977, Children's Book Press published The People Shall Continue by Simon Ortiz. This groundbreaking book "was and is hailed as an honest history of colonization in North America," and tells of the struggles, endurance, and survival of Native Americans. Check out this excellent article about The People Shall Continue on the American Indians in Children's Literature blog.
