A CLASSIC COMES OF AGE
Children’s Book Press is proud to announce the publication of the special 15th anniversary edition of Family Pictures / Cuadros de Familia

San Francisco, CA—Some things only get better with time. Carmen Lomas Garza’s paintings and stories in Family Pictures / Cuadros de Familia have captivated readers young and old for their vibrant and honest depictions of daily life in a small Texas border town. For fifteen years, her stories have expressed her pride in her rich Mexican American heritage while transcending cultural barriers. To honor the impact her work has had on the Latino community and on the larger community of readers, Children’s Book Press is releasing Family Pictures: 15th Anniversary Edition / Cuadros de Familia: Edición «Quinceañera».

Since its original release in 1990, Family Pictures has sold over 400,000 copies and garnered awards and praise from the American Library Association, the Library of Congress, and many others. Through her vivid paintings, Carmen Lomas Garza shares her unique childhood memories, like picking nopal cactus with her grandfather, making tamales in her family’s kitchen, and taking a swing at a piñata.

The special 15th anniversary edition will surely be treasured by both fans of the original book as well as readers discovering it for the first time. It includes the following new features:

  • A new image of a girl’s quinceañera (fifteenth birthday celebration) and accompanying narrative text
  • New layout and design
  • An introduction by award-winning literary luminary Sandra Cisneros
  • An afterword by acclaimed author and education advocate Pat Mora
  • Larger trim size (9 1/2” x 11 1/2”)
  • Simultaneous hardcover and paperback editions

CARMEN LOMAS GARZA is one of the most prominent Mexican American painters working today.
