About the Book

Is Tuesday afternoon.
Grannie always come!
Is Tuesday after lunch.
Grannie soon come!

So begins the charming story of a young girl who eagerly anticipates the weekly visit of her beloved grandmother. From the moment Grannie arrives in the colorful bus, her young granddaughter is eager to make her feel right at home. She invites Grannie to take off her straw hat and gold-rimmed glasses, her shoes and her pretty new dress, and to put on Daddy's slippers and Mommie's housedress.

Set in Paraíso, a town in Panama, the loving dialogue between the girl and her grannie is accentuated by the rhythmic dialect of Caribbean English. In warm, simple language, she tells Grannie all the things she loves about her, from her nice smell to her soft skin to her blue-rinsed hair. Accompanied by the free-spirited and vivid illustrations of Karen Lusebrink, Grannie Jus' Come! celebrates the special, intimate relationship between a girl and her cherished grandmother.
